The decision on the establishment of the Engineering Academy of Yugoslavia (EAY) was brought on Jan. 15, 1998 at the assembly of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Yugoslavia (AETY). The EAY was established as a special unit of the AETY. A parent commission was established with the following members: prof. dr. Momir Đurović, prof.dr. Radomir Simić, prof.dr. Borivoje Mišković, prof.dr. Jovan Todorović, academician Miomir Vukobratović, prof.dr. Dimitrije Tjapkin, dr. Milan Mitrović and prof.dr. Vladimir Trifunović. The parent commission prepared the Statute and other materials for inaugural assembly.

 

Inaugural assembly of the EAY was held on July 1998 and the Statute has been adopted on it. Academician M. Vukobratović has been elected chairman, and M.Đurović vice-chair. 4 departments were formed, for mechanical engineering sciences, electrical engineering sciences, civil and mining engineering sciences and technological and metallurgical engineering sciences. Secretaries of departments were elected: J.Todorović, D. Tjapkin, M. Ivković, M.Mitrović. The steering committee has been formed and Miodrag Sekulović was elected secretary general.

 

The Federal Ministry of Justice brought the Decision on Oct. 8, 1998 to enter the EAY to the Register of social and political organizations as an independent association of citizens and a legal entity.

 

At the assembly held on May 12, 2004 changes of the Statute were implemented and the Academy name was changed into "Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia and Montenegro". The ministry for Human and Minority Rights brought the Decision #2/0-1405 on Oct. 19 2004 to enter the Academy into the register of the associations of citizens under that name.

 

The Academy changes its name once more into the "Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia" at the Assembly held on Oct. 26 2006 when the corresponding changes of the Statute were also adopted, and the Decision No. 130-024-00-01012/2006-07/3 from May 23, 2007 was brought by the Ministry for State Government and Local Self-Government.

 

The arrival of the new Law of Societies resulted in harmonization of the Statute of the Academy, which was done at the assembly held on March 17, 2010. The Academy was re-registered in the Agency Business Registers and entered to the Register of Societies on Apro. 2010 under the number 17201727.
