МИЛАН С. ЋАЛОВИЋ, редовни члан АИНС од 2000. године, редовни професор Електротехничког факултета Универзитета у Београду, у пензији од 1998. Рођен је 26. децембра 1932. године у селу Бељини код Чачка, од оца Селомира, земљорадника и мајке Гвозденије, рођене Јовановић, домаћице. Основну школу је завршио 1943, гимназију 1951 године, а дипломирао је на Електротехничком факултету Универзитета у Београду 1957, магистрирао 1966. и одбранио докторски дисертацију 1973. године (наслов: „Линеарни регулатори са компензацијом поремећаја”).

После дипломирања и једногодишњег одслужења војног рока, запослио се у Електроприверди Србије, где је радио до 1980. године, када је прешао да ради на Електротехнички факултет у Београду, на којем је пензионисан у звању редовног професора 1998. године. После пензионисања наставио је стручну сарадњу са Инсититутом „Никола Тесла”, „Енергопројектом” и ДМС-групом, Нови Сад. Предавао је предмете на редовним и постдипломским студијама на универзитетима у Београду, Новом Саду, Подгорици и Крагујевцу (Технички факултет, Чачак) из области аутоматског управљања („Основи аутоматског управљања”) и електроенергетских система („Анализа електроенергетских система”, „Планирање електроенергетских система”, „Експлоатација електроенергетских система”, „Регулација електроенергетских система” и „Оптимално управљање електроенергетским системима”). Током универзитетске каријере руководио је израдом 9 докторских дисертација, 45 магистарских теза и преко 60 дипломских радова.

Школске 1970/71 године (2 семестра) и 1982/83 године (1 семестар) био је гостујући професор на University of Illinois, Urbana, IL, USA где је предавао курсеве из области анализе и регулације електроенергетских система и радио на истраживању проблема оптималне регулације електроенергетских система. Школске 1974/75 године (1 семестар) на Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA предавао је курс „Анализа електроенергетских система”, а летњи семестар 1983. године провео је као истраживач на Универзитету Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, где је радио на проблему уклапања електрана на ветар у савремене електроенергетске системе. У периоду 1985-1987 радио је као виши научни саветник у Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (КИСР) на пројекту изводљивости повезивања арапских земаља Залива у заједнички електроенергетски систем (познат као „ GCC countries interconnection project ”). После тога, све до ирачке окупације Кувајта 1990. године, био је спољни научни саветник тог института.

Објавио је (сам или са сарадницима) 39 чланака (до 2008. године) у најпознатијим светским часописима и поднео 42 реферата на међународним стручним и научним конференцијама. Према подацима Scientific Citation Index -а, до 2008. године цитиран је 196 пута. Поред тога, у књигама издатим у иностранству у периоду до 2006. године цитиран је 18 пута. Аутор је двотомне монографије „Регулација електроенергетских система” (штампане 1997. године) и први аутор књига и збирки решених задатака под насловом „Експлоатација електроенергетских система” (1999, 2005), „Планирање електроенергетских система” (2000) и „Основи анализе електроенергетских мрежа и система” (2004).

Био је директни учесник или стручни консултант на низу пројеката из области анализе, планирања развоја, експлоатације, управљања и регулације електроенергетских система, обрађиваних у ЕПС-у, „Електроисток”-у, „Енергопројект”-у и институтима „Никола Тесла” и „Михајло Пупин”. У домаћим часописима и на конференцијама објавио је преко 85 чланака и реферата. Награђен је од стране Електротехничког факултета у Београду за успех на студијама 1954. и 1955. године, затим наградом „Колубара 1966” за магистарску тезу, наградом „Бедјанич 1973” за докторску дисертацију, „Митровић 1972” за реферат на ЕТАН-у, наградом „ЦИГРЕ” за реферате на Конференцијама ЈУКО ЦИГРЕ 1989. и 1999. године, наградом „ЦИРЕД 1998” за реферат на Конференцији ЈУКО ЦИРЕД 1998. године и плакетом „ЈУКО ЦИГРЕ” 1989. године за активност у тој организацији. Године 1977. добио је Октобарску награду Београда за математичко-физичке и техничке науке, а године 2002. повељу и плакету ЕПС-а „Ђорђе Станојевић”, за доприносе на развоју електропривреде и електрификације Србије. Члан је издавачког савета часописа Int. Journal of El. Power and Energy Systems (од 1982) и чест рецензент радова истог часописа. Такође је био рецензент низа радова поднетих за часописе Proc. IEE, Automatica, Int. Journal of Engineering Intelligent Systems и стручних конференција PSCC и PSAC. Био је и члан програмског одбора на неколико међународних стручних конференција (IFAC Symposium, Seoul, Korea 1990, PSAC, Bled, Slovenia 1997 и 1999, Tesla III Millenium, Београд 1997, BPC 2001 и 2002.). Члан Председништва, односно Извршног одбора ЈУКО ЦИГРЕ и председник Студијског комитета 39 („Експлоатација и управљање електроенергетским системима”) био је у два наврата: 1977-1985 и 1993-1997 године. Године 1997. изабран је за члана Научног друштва Србије, а 2000. године за редовног члана Инжењерске академије Југославије (сада Академије инжењерских наука Србије).

Поред University of Illinois (Urbana, IL), Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA)и Cornell, у иностранству је држао предавања по позиву на Washington University (St. Louis, MO), Iowa State University (Ames, IO), TU Dresden (Dresden, Germany), Kuwait University (Kuwait), Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (Kuwait), General Electric Company (Schenectady, NY), као и у електропривредним организацијама држава Qатар и Оман и у Научном друштву Србије и Инжењерској академији Србије и Црне Горе.

MILAN S. ĆALOVIĆ, Full Member of AESS from 2000, Full Professor of the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, was born on December 26, 1932 in the village Beljina, near Čačak in a farmer's family, by father Selomir and mother Gvozdenija, born Jovanović. He finished primary school in 1943, high school in 1951 and graduated at School of Electrical Engineering of the University of Belgrade (Energy Department) in 1957. At the same institution, he was granted the M.Sc. degree in 1966 and Ph.D. degree in 1973 (the thesis title: “Linear regulators with disturbance compensation property”). After graduation and one-year army service, he got employed in 1958 with the Public Power Utility of Serbia, working on different positions, until 1980, when he moved for the permanent employment to the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, where he spent the rest of his working career there, till the retirement in 1998. in the position of full professor. At retirement, he continued professional cooperation with the Institute “Nikola Tesla“,“Energoprojekt“ and DMS-group, Novi Sad. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses and carried out research in the fields of automatic control and power systems engineering, at universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Podgorica and Kragujevac (Čačak). During his academic career, he was the supervisor of 9 Ph.D., 45 M.Sc., and more than 60 diploma theses.

During the academic year 1970/1971 (2 semesters) and 1982/1983 (1 semester) he was visiting professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana, IL, USA (teaching the courses of analysis and control of power systems), and in 1974/1975 (1 semester) at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA (teaching a course in power system analysis). The summer semester in 1983, he spent as the senior research scientist at the Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, working on the problem of wind power plants integration in modern power systems. In the period 1985-1987, he was engaged as the senior scientist with Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research in Kuwait, working on the feasibility study of the interconnection of Gulf Cooperation Council Countries power systems into a common network (known as “GCC countries interconnection project”). After that, he was the external scientific consultant to KISR until 1990, when Kuwait was occupied by Iraq.

To the year 2008, he published (alone or with co-authors) 39 papers in the first-class world's scientific journals. Besides, he presented 42 papers at international scientific and professional conferences. According to incomplete data of the Scientific Citation Index, to the year 2008 he was cited more than 196 times in scientific papers and in 18 monographs and books printed abroad.

Professor Ćalović is the only author of the two-volume monograph “Power Systems Control” (printed in 1997) and the first author of the textbooks (followed by the solved problem manuals) titled “Power System Operation” (1999, 2005), “Power System Planning” (2000) and „Fundamentals of Analysis of Power Networks and Systems“ (2004). In the Yugoslav professional journals and/or conference proceedings, he published more than 85 papers.

Professor Ćalović was the recipient of several awards for his professional achievements: Awards for the academic excellence at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade in 1954 and 1955; Awards “Kolubara 1966” for his M.Sc. thesis and “Bedjanič 1973” for his Ph.D. thesis; “Mitrović 1972” for the best paper submitted to the Section of Automatic Control of ETAN; “CIGRE 1989” and “1999”, for best papers on Yugoslav Conferences of CIGRE in the mentioned years; “CIRED 1998”, for the best paper on 1998 National CIRED Conference; and Diploma of the Yugoslav National Committee of CIGRE (1998) for the contribution to the activities of this organization. In 1977 he obtained the “October Award” of the City of Belgrade for the achievements in mathematics, physics and engineering sciences, and in October, 2002 the recognition “Đorđe Stanojević” of the Serbian Power Industry, for his contributions in the electrification and development of the electric power system of Serbia.

Professor Ćalović has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Int. Journal of El. Power and Energy Systems (since 1982) and frequent reviewer of papers submitted for publication in this journal. Besides, he has reviewed several papers submitted for publication in the journals Proc. IEE, Automatica, Int. Journal of Engineering Intelligent Systems, etc., as well as the papers submitted for the presentation at the PSCC, PSAC and BPC conferences. He also was a member of the Programme Committees of several international conferences, as e.g. IFAC Symposium in Seoul, Korea 1990, PSAC in Bled, Slovenia 1997 and 1999, Tesla III Millenium in Belgrade 1997, BPC 2001 and 2002, etc. He was a member of the Central Board and Chairman of the Study Committee No. 39 of the Yugoslav National Committee of CIGRE during two terms: 1977-1985 and 1993-1997. In the year 1997, he was elected for the member of the Scientific Society of Serbia, and in 2000, as full member of the Engineering Academy of Yugoslavia (now Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia). Professor Ćalović was an invited speaker on the seminars and lectures given at University of Illinois (Urbana, IL), Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA), Washington University (St. Louis, MO), Iowa State University (Ames, IO), TU Dresden (Dresden, Germany), Kuwait University (Kuwait), Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (Kuwait), General Electric Company (Schenectady, NY) and power utility organizations of the states of Qatar and Oman, as well as in Scientific Society of Serbia and Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia.
